Shropshire Life is a celebration of all that is great about life in this wonderful county.

The people and the places that make up Shropshire make it the most fascinating of counties. It is one of England’s most rural and sparsely populated shires yet the quality of its shopping, its breadth of leisure and entertainment opportunities and, of course the quality of its food, is world-renowned.

This is the place where the Industrial Revolution began, where the genius of Charles Darwin was nurtured, where the many of the great names of the past three centuries were educated. It’s a place of diverse landscape from the hills to the meres and mosses; a county which prides itself on putting on a good show.

From north to south, east to west the towns and villages offer great days out: Whitchurch, standing on the site of a Roman hillfort; Shrewsbury, birthplace of Charles Darwin, looped by the River Severn; the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, and birthplace of the industrial revolution; Ludlow, Shropshire’s food and drink capital; pretty Much Wenlock, home of William Penny Brookes who inspired the Modern Olympic Games.

Shropshire’s bursting with entertaining attractions, such as the Ironbridge Gorge Museums, a World Heritage Site, and Hawkstone Park and Follies, the museum at RAF Cosford, the Severn Valley Railway and Stokesay Court, where they filmed the Bafta and Oscar winning film ‘Atonement’.

Shropshire has some 32 castles and stately homes - some of the best can be found at Ludlow, Stokesay, Whittington and at Attingham Park, Shrewsbury and there’s a Roman City at Wroxeter. Shropshire also blooms with many national garden collections and speciality gardens like Wollerton Old Hall and Stapeley Water Gardens.
